Enhancing the Safety, Health, and Wellbeing of WCT’s Workers
01 July 2024
The Quality, Environment, Safety, Security, and Health (QESSH) Department of the Engineering and Construction Division successfully organised the Hari Raya Haji Worker Welfare Programme at two centralised labour quarters (CLQ) – Kampung Kayu Ara Workers Camp and Taman Subang Workers Camp. This initiative underscores WCT Berhad’s strong commitment to Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) and the overall wellbeing of its workers, aligning with the Employees’ Minimum Standards of Housing, Accommodations and Amenities Act 1990.

On 7th July 2024, Mr Manoharan Dorasamy, Head of QESSH, addressed workers at the Kampung Kayu Ara Workers Camp. The workers were treated to a celebratory lunch and received complimentary Malaria screenings provided by the local health authority, Petaling District Health Office (Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Petaling). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Malaria is one of the most serious public health concerns globally, with nearly half of the world's population at risk of infection. Regular screenings, therefore, play a crucial role in safeguarding worker health.

The following week,on 14th July 2024, the management team visited the Taman Subang Workers Camp, where comprehensive medical screenings were conducted by Petaling Health Clinic (Klinik Kesihatan Petaling). Lastly, on 4th August 2024, workers at the Kampung Kayu Ara Workers Camp were offered complimentary haircuts as part of the programme.

In addition to these services, workers at both CLQs had the opportunity to share their feedback and voice concerns regarding living and working conditions.

Looking ahead, the QESSH team is planning similar annual initiatives to continue supporting our workers. Collaborations with local health authorities, like Petaling District Health Office and Petaling Health Clinic, remain crucial in helping WCT achieve its OHS goals.
