Baking to Success at the WCTGives Deepavali CSR with Ibupreneur
02 November 2023

Held in celebration of the Deepavali festival, the programme in collaboration with social enterprise, Ibupreneur equipped 30 mothers with proper baking and entrepreneurial skills to earn additional income.

The WCT’s “Bake to Success” CSR initiative not only achieved its objective of imparting baking and entrepreneurial skills to single, retired mothers in the community but also left a positive impact towards women's empowerment.

Launched on November 2nd, the programme sponsored by WCT saw the attendance of these mothers at Ibupreneur’s production house in TTDI, Kuala Lumpur, to hone their baking skills under the guidance of the social enterprise.

Among the guests of honour present to grace the event was Ms Selena Chua, CEO of WCT Malls Management (left picture, second from right) and Pn Rahana Binti Abdul Rashid, WCT Independent Non-Executive Director (right picture).

The two-day workshop saw mothers learning different techniques and new recipes to bake Diwali snacks and cookies, including Murruku, and Blossom Delights cookies.

A big thank you to all WCT employee volunteers who spared their time engaging with the participants and making the two-day workshop a success.

Following the workshop, a Deepavali pre-sale within the Group was held, encouraging employees to support the cookie sale in enabling mothers to joyfully celebrate the Festival of Lights with extra financial security.

We would like to express our gratitude to all our colleagues who have extended support for this Deepavali pre-sale. A total of 161 bottles of cookies were sold, generating a sale amount of RM3,065.00 for the mothers.

The campaign culminated in a festive sale at Paradigm Mall Petaling Jaya from November 10 leading to Deepavali day, where shortlisted mothers were invited to sharpen their entrepreneurial skills by selling their baked items at a complimentary booth courtesy of the mall.

Together with the support from the public, the campaign ended on a high note as it contributed to the empowerment of these women, fostering a sense of community and resilience. WCTGives would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to all parties who were involved in this campaign and we look forward to even more successful event in the next festive season.
