KUALA LUMPUR, 14 NOVEMBER 2024 – WCT Holdings Berhad (“WCT” or “the Group”), an investment holding company with businesses in engineering and construction, property development, as well as investment in and management of retail malls, hotels, and business aviation has launched its latest CSR initiative, "Brightening Lives". The initiative supports Buku Jalanan Chow Kit (“BJCK”), an NGO providing free education to over 100 underserved children in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur, in line with WCT’s commitment to CSR and sustainability.
Recognising that education is a fundamental right for all children, the “Brightening Lives” initiative, under the WCTGives - #EducationforAll pillar, includes a sponsorship of RM57,000.00 to provide books, educational materials, and support for the upgrading and repair of essential facilities at the BJCK centre. This initiative aims to make a meaningful impact in the lives of the children, helping them reach their full potential through enhanced educational resources and a supportive learning environment.
Dato’ Lee Tuck Fook, Group Managing Director of WCT, said, “Through WCTGives “Brightening Lives”, we reaffirm our commitment to making impactful contributions to the local community by nurturing children and providing them a safe space to grow and play. Collaborating with community leaders such as Buku Jalanan Chow Kit, we strive to address the educational disparities faced by underprivileged communities and foster a more inclusive society that enriches the lives of the children.”
In line with the “Brightening Lives” theme, WCT supported the refurbishment and repair of the centre’s windows, doors, toilets, and minor electrical systems, creating a brighter, safer, and more conducive environment for students. To further enhance the centre’s learning atmosphere, WCT engaged Artisan Malaysia, a local artist to paint a wall mural titled “BJCK – Our Journey” at the centre’s 3rd Floor, adding vibrancy and colour to the learning space.
To celebrate the launch of the upgraded centre, Mr Chong Wah Hing, Chief Operating Officer – Property Development, along with WCT employee volunteers spent an engaging afternoon at BJCK, connecting with over 30 upper primary school children through educational games like ‘Pictionary’ and ‘Colour Coordination’. The activities fostered creativity, teamwork, and learning, creating a joyful and enriching experience for both the children and the volunteers.
“At WCT, we aspire to support educators like BJCK by providing educational tools and a conducive environment that better equip the children here for the future, said Mr Chong Wah Hing, Chief Operating Officer – Property Development, at the event.
En Amin Khalili, Executive Director, Buku Jalanan Chow Kit, said, “We are grateful to WCT for supporting BJCK’s vision of empowering underprivileged children with the skills they need to build sustainable livelihoods and lead fulfilling lives. At BJCK, our mission is to protect the rights of all at-risk children and youth by providing safe spaces, nurturing environments, and access to positive, holistic opportunities that allow them to reach their full potential. This support enables us to further our commitment to these children and inspire hope for a brighter future.”
